LA QUINTA--Public hearings have been scheduled in the Imperial and Coachella valleys to receive comments on Salton Sea Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

The locations and times of the hearings are 1 to 4 p.m. March 1 in the Imperial Irrigation District Board Room, 81-600 Ave 58, La Quinta; 6 to 9 p.m. March 1 at the Coachella Valley Association of Governments, 73-710 Fred Waring Drive, Room 119, Palm Desert; 1 to 4 p.m. March 2 at the Brawley Chamber of Commerce, 204 S. Imperial Ave., Brawley and 6 to 9 p.m. March 2 at the VFW West Shore Post, 50 Desert Shores Drive, Desert Shores.

For those wishing to comment, a sign in for the hearing will begin half an hour prior to the scheduled hearings times. Both oral and written comments will be considered in the final report document. Written comments will be taken until April 26.

The Salton Sea Authority and the Bureau of Reclamation have prepared the joint Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Salton Sea Restoration Project.

The document was made available to the public Jan.26. Copies are available at local libraries and on the Internet at www.lc.usbr.gov.

To help readers get the most out of this 800-page document, a guide summarizing the project has also been published. A print or cd version of the draft and the summary are available by calling the Bureau of Reclamation at (702) 293 8129.
